Cross-country skiing in Pitztal
For those wanting to be absolutely sure of good snow and free, well-prepared tracks, Pitztal is the right choice for you. Starting with the valley track, that is over 21.7 km, taking you from the village of Wiese up to Mandarfen at an altitude of 1 743 metres, it offers amazing conditions due to its height. Also the 3 km long high-track is a true cross-country experience – perfectly prepared and well sign-posted. Regardless of style, be it classic or skating – the panorama along route is simply overwhelming.
The 21.3 km cross-country skiing trail, which can be used for both classic and skating techniques, can be used in both directions. In addition, it is possible to join or leave the track in every village.

The ascent is with the Gletscherexpress (a pedestrian or cross-country skiers ticket can be purchased) to 2 840 m. After about 100 m you come to the top station of the 6-seater chairlift, which takes you to the start of the glacier track. After the start behind the base station of the 8-seater gondola lift at 2 690 m, the trail runs in more or less steady ascents to its highest point at 2 740 m. The chairlift takes you comfortably back to the top station of the Gletcherexpress.

This challenging classic track with some skating sections winds itself through a thick forest. After approx. 2 km you reach a small clearing and the track takes you over a challenging ascent to “Harbeweiher”. After a small circuit of the frozen lake, and a further ascent, you reach the highest point of this track. From here the route takes you through thick forest back to the starting point. This track is ideal for nature lovers with good physical fitness.
